For the true enthusiast nothing compares to the crackling sound that stoking with wood has to offer. For most people this evokes an open fire, reminiscent our childhood; a chimney, under that a hearth with a grate which the wood was placed on ... and stoke away! There have been many innovations relating to wood combustion over the years that have made stoking more sustainable and environmentally-friendly.

Within this context an exceptional Dik Geurts innovation offers the consumer the ideal combination of ambinece, sustainability and environmental awareness: in 2011 Dik Geurts introduced a new wood stove model at the renowned international building exhibition in Brussels; the 'Mats', that not only stood out in its design but also due to its unique system that indicates on the spot the level of stoking responsibility.

Innovative new EcoLight system®
For many years Dik Geurts has invested in the environment with clean combustion techniques for its stoves. With the Mats wood stove and the patented EcoLight system® Dik Geurts aims to help the consumer stoke responsibly; the EcoLight® display is on the front of the Mats and has LED lights that indicate whether the fire is at the right temperature for optimum combustion, and as a result produces minimal fine particle emissions.

High output
Nowadays wood stoves and fires boast extremely high outputs and excellent, very clean combustion. In comparison to an open fire that attains on average a mere 15% output as much of the heat dissipates up the chimney, a wood stove attains an exceptionally high output: on average around 70 to 80%! Open fire emissions are also far higher than wood stove emissions. When both are used to heat a room the wood stove appears to emit 15x less CO2 than the open fire, and 50x less fine particle emissions. Why is that? All wood stoves and fires are closed and equipped with either a glass window or door, which increases the temperature in the combustion chamber and retains the heat. Moreover, many appliances have added insulation and the flue gases are discharged via an ingenious system. This maintains a high temperature and any released substances are optimally burned.
